Jitter
If a fiberoptic cable has an imperfect connector on either end, it can cause reflections of any signal to go back into the cable. With a simple digital signal, the reflection might look something look like this on an oscilloscope.
It's probably called "jitter" because in real applications, the reflected signal artifact tends to wiggle.
