8-11-07 NASA Climate Data Adjustment

1938 was the hottest year on record during the twentieth century, with 5 of the 10 hottest years on record occuring before World War II. This newly adjusted data is the result of finding a flaw in the software used to present the data, and making a correction.

8-8-07 Dust To Dust

Last March's Dust To Dust energy report (pdf), often referenced by the gas-guzzling, anti-green pundits over the past year, has been soundly refuted by Dr. Peter H. Gleick, Pacific Institute, a couple of months ago in Hummer Versus Prius (pdf). There's a short post by Wayne Cunningham here that succinctly presents the fallout.

I posted at lenght about the fact that there ain't no such thing as a free lunch last April here, here, and here. Before that, I posted about the fact that we still live in a "fire society" here, and here.

Somehow, this society has to bring an end to the millennia long "era" where the human race has based everything upon burning something to derive our energy needs. The fire society paradigm of energy production needs to be put to bed. "Fuel Efficiency" is hardly the answer when "fuel" itself, and the burning of it, is the core paradigm of energy production. Solar, Geothermal, Tidal, and Wind power are the currently established and working technologies that don't rely upon this old paradigm.

Everything else presupposes the selling of fuel within the old paradigm of burning something, the "fire society" paradigm. And as long as this energy production paradigm remains the central focus, we will remain at the mercy of the international "energy" merchants, and continue to burn our way into the future, whether it's in a Prius or a Hummer.

8-4-07 A Serious Mistake

Glenn Reynolds says, "I think that shooting Bailey will turn out to be a serious mistake," at the end of this post on Instapundit today. I couldn't agree more.
